An American Airlines flight was diverted to Rome today after a bomb threat and landed at Rome’s Fiumicino airport, sources close to the airport said.
The Boeing with 199 passengers on board had departed New York for New Delhi but was forced to change its route and land without incident in Fiumicino, where “all passengers disembarked,” according to the same sources.
The plane was escorted by two Italian Air Force planes before landing at Rome airport.
“Police are carrying out checks as required by airport protocol,” the sources said, adding that the unexpected landing did not affect airport operations.
