US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will attend talks between Ukraine and Russia scheduled to take place in Turkey on Thursday, US President Donald Trump said.
“The talks could produce good results,” Trump said during a speech in Saudi Arabia, adding that he was working hard to end the bloodshed.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Embassy in Turkey said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was on his way to Ankara.
Zelensky told reporters earlier in the day that he would first meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara and would travel to Istanbul if Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived there.
Zelensky said that an agreement on a ceasefire and an end to the war could only be reached in a direct meeting with Putin.
