The news about violence among children in one of the kindergartens in Sarajevo, which was shared by the child’s mother, disturbed BiH citizens. The case was reported to the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton, and the Cantonal Ministry announced an urgent inspection of the preschool.
After noticing bruises on the child, the mother reported it to the MUP of Sarajevo Canton, and the injuries from bites and blows, as she stated, were confirmed by the competent doctors. The Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed for BHRT that they had received the parents’ report.
“Officials of the Novo Sarajevo Police Department are actively acting on the report, and investigations are ongoing.”
The child’s mother also stated that there is a video recording of the incident which, according to her, is in the possession of the kindergarten. The urgent inspection of this preschool institution was announced by the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Education.
“The Ministry of Education of the Canton of Sarajevo has asked the Public Institution Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education of the Canton of Sarajevo to be immediately involved in this case, in order to determine all the circumstances in which this disturbing case occurred.”
Greater attention must be focused on the expertise of those who work with vulnerable categories, our interlocutors point out.
CEDOMIR NOVAKOVIĆ, psychologist
“If a child is given to an institution that is registered for custody, for taking care of him, for the educational process or for the socialization process, then it absolutely must be under a uniform, fair relationship and a criterion that is equal for all children. No one can do better than the children to feel or notice, regardless of the fact that they are small children, that someone does not like someone, or that someone mistreats someone.”
VLADIMIR VASIC, sociologist
“Specifically in this case, the problem, which should of course be examined, is the responsibility of individuals who are in that position, educators, pedagogues or whatever position they are already in. It is now a deeper problem of appointing people, who and in what way is appointed to and appropriate positions, who works and treats children in what way, and what are the moral and scientific predispositions of those persons to be admitted to that position at all.”
After the evidence is collected, the move is up to the prosecution. And for educational institutions, prevention of any form of neglect and violence should be imperative.
