Vucic Announces He Will Step Down as President of Serbia in 18 Months

Aleksandar Vučić has announced that he will step down as President of Serbia in a year and a half and has called on citizens to think about what exactly they want from their country in the future.

“Do you want a state without Vučić? You will have it in a year and a half. I will no longer be president. Just be careful about what exactly you want from your country in the future and what you think your country looks like. Because what you are doing, someone will do for you tomorrow. You think that when you come to power, no one will want to do it for you,” Vučić said during an appearance on Radio Television of Serbia.

He added that the elections will be held before the legal and constitutional deadline, but that the competent institutions will decide on this.

“The state is not a toy, the state is run so that we can have economic growth and so that citizens live better. I run this state responsibly, to the best of my ability. I have tied my destiny to Serbia and I am not going anywhere. We have done more in the last 12-13 years than in the last 60 years and we will continue to do so. You may like it or not, but these are the facts. I am not going anywhere, I have no villas or accounts abroad. There will be elections, and they will be held ahead of time, and don’t be surprised when they do,” said Vučić.

The Serbian president also spoke about the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska. He stressed that this is not about the fate of Milorad Dodik, but about the fate of Republika Srpska itself.

“This is not about Milorad Dodik, but about the fate of Republika Srpska. Another thing is that among us Serbs, everything is tied to personality. What they did to Milorad Dodik is an unprecedented crime. Despite all the talk about corruption, it all came down to the decision of the occupation ‘auleiter’ and the verbal offense he committed. As for Serbia, Serbia will always stand by Republika Srpska, it will not interfere in the internal affairs of Republika Srpska, their elections, but we will always be at the disposal of our people to help them in every possible way,” said Vučić and added:

“In accordance with the Dayton Agreement, and that is what we will do,” said Vučić.
