Vucic: No Better Sign Than Croats Burning My Effigy Every Year

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that he is proud that during the carnival in Kastela near Split, a doll with his likeness was once again burned, saying that this is an indicator that he has “done many good things for the Serbian people.”

“There is no better sign than when the Croats burn your doll every year in a row. That means you have done many, many good things for the Serbian people. So, I am proud of that and I am endlessly grateful to them for it. I wish them the same result next year, and the year after that too,” Vucic said to journalists during his visit to the Bor District.

He expressed hope that they will succeed in burning his doll again next year, meaning that he will “fight even harder and even more for the Serbian people and the citizens of Serbia so that they have enough reasons to burn that doll.”

“I am very proud of that fact, and I am slowly entering Serbian history. I think this is the third year in a row that I am the biggest culprit and that they have been burning me there for the third year in a row. I hope they will for the next two years as well. Imagine being their biggest culprit for five years. How good you must be for Serbia and for the Serbian people as a whole. I am very happy because of that,” Vucic added.

In Kastela near Split, a traditional carnival was held at which a doll with the likeness of President Vucic was burned, Croatian media reported, stating that tradition dictates that at the end of each procession, “the culprit for all the problems of the past year,” is burned.

Last year, on the final day of the carnival in Kastel Stari, dolls with the likenesses of Vucic and Russian President Vladimir Putin were burned.
