The Agency for the Water Area of the Adriatic Sea, Mostar, issued a notice on the extraordinary hydrological situation for August 4 and 5.
As stated in the notification, due to the announced strong local showers, accompanied by thunder and strong gusts of wind, there is a local possibility of hail that is expected in the coming days, and at most hydrological stations in the water area of the Adriatic Sea, an increase in water levels is forecast.
The notice on the forecast of a possible increase in the water level and the occurrence of possible torrential flows covers the municipalities and cities: Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar, Čapljina, Grude, Ljubuški, Široki Brijeg.
The relevant institutions are advised to monitor the situation and act in accordance with their powers, adhering to the Federal Flood Defense Operational Plan, and services implementing protection measures, rescuing people and material goods are advised to be extra cautious.
Competent civil protection services should warn the population in areas along rivers that do not have built-in protective water facilities of the danger of approaching the banks due to possible increases in the depth and speed of the water in the rivers, and provide a timely notification with instructions and guidelines for behavior so that the population is able to implement measures in order to reduce possible damages from the harmful effects of water.
The Agency for the Water Area of the Adriatic Sea in Mostar notes that the notification is issued based on forecasted rainfall data, and that any changes in the weather forecast may also affect the forecasted hydrological state.
A warning due to the predicted heavy rainfall was also issued in the Republic of Srpska.
