What are Advantages for Students who decide to enrol in Erasmus?

Studying abroad at prestigious European universities, learning new languages, and experiencing new cultures and traditions are just some of the advantages of Erasmus+ student exchange. Students and academic staff from Bosnia and Herzegovina have been increasingly utilising the vast opportunities offered through Erasmus+, one of the most successful programmes of the European Union.

Studying abroad is nothing to be afraid of, rather it is something to be proud of, agree Erasmus+ alumni students. For Leila Lizda and Amela Brčaninović, the Erasmus experience profoundly changed their perceptions of life and careers, taught them patience and encouraged them to step out of their comfort zone. “Dare and stop at one Erasmus!” agree Leila and Amela, both of whom have been on two exchanges, met incredible colleagues from across the globe and came back to Sarajevo richer for an extraordinary experience.

Gianluca Vannini, Head of Operation Section for Social Development, Civil Society and Cross Border Cooperation of the EU Delegation to BiH, congratulated the future exchange students during the inaugural annual pre-departure event organised by the EU Info Centre and wished them luck on their future adventures. “This experience will enable you to gain knowledge of the European Union and our common values that you can share amongst your peers. Your country needs young and educated people with a good understanding of the European Union to play a role in the EU accession process,” added Vannini.

Reducing youth unemployment, promoting development of new skills, encouraging youth to take part in European democracy, supporting innovation and cooperation, and promoting youth mobility are some of the reasons why Erasmus+ is a valuable opportunity for students and higher education institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Suad Muhibić, Director of the National Erasmus+ Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, noted that the main goals of the programme are to help higher education institutions raise capacities, modernise and improve curricula and governing structures, and increase international mobility, underlining that student mobility is one of the most prominent features of the programme. “You are investing in your education. Joining Erasmus is a key decision for your future, you will meet new people and learn a lot and by doing that you will be doing yourself a favour – Erasmus+ is your ticket to Europe and the world,” noted Muhibić.

By doubling the Erasmus+ budget for the 2021-2027 period, the European Union aims to support its ambitions to empower young people and strengthen the common European identity. The Erasmus+ Higher Education Impact Study, published by the European Commission, notes that the exchange has been a turning point in the lives of over 5 million students. Student testimonials, experiences and best practices of university staff, as well as new opportunities, will be presented during the pre-departure events organised in the upcoming period in Tuzla, Mostar and Banja Luka.
