The Guardian published a detailed report on the construction of the mosque by Ferhat Pasha in the 16th century and the demolition of the mosque by Serb nationalists during ethnic cleansing in the 1990s. The Guardian reminded that the mosque is being opened 23 years later, on the same date when it was destroyed – May 7.
Former minister of foreign affairs of Sweden Carl Bildt wrote on his Twitter account that he is very happy to see the beautiful mosque in Banja Luka open again.
“It was high time,” Bildt wrote.
More than 10.000 believers from around the world are coming today to the official opening of Ferhadija. The event will be secured by over 1.000 members of security agencies.
