What is the Secret? Mara and Niko Tadic entering the 70th Year of Marriage

coupleMara and Niko Tadic from Gornja Lovnica near Zepce have a unique marriage story. Their love story is lasting for 70 years and, as they emphasized, they have gone through many things, but there was always respect.

The modern conception of marriage and the large number of divorces after only few years of life together is completely contradictory with what the couple Tadic lived in their 70-years-long love story.

When still minor Niko Tadic decided to get married back in 1946, he did not know that he might be prevented because of his years. Mara is 5 years older than Nike, and they opted for living together and marriage in December 1946.

photoNiko Tadic had to get a special permission from the district Court in Zepce in order to get married. After many uncertainty, just few hours before the wedding, the permission was approved and Niko and Mara began their marriage which lasts until today.

Life experience of these two people is immeasurable. They were both born in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Mara in 1924, and Niko in 1929. In their long-lasting marriage they got 12 children: 5 sons, one of whom tragically died, and 7 daughters. Among heirs, Tadic couple have 32 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. The oldest child is 67 years old, the oldest grandchild is 46 years old and the oldest great-grandchild is 20 years old. The youngest child is 43 years old, the youngest grandchild is 17 years old, and the youngest great-grandchild is only few months old.
