The educational process for children from migrant families currently residing in Bihac and Cazin should start at the beginning of the second half of this school year.

“We will follow the example of countries that have previously experienced a migrant route, so we will begin with a preparatory process of DE traumatizing. We will slowly bring migrants children in the educational system, so that they can be involved in regular educational activities, “, Adnan Kreso of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Una-Sana Canton said.

He added that health centers in cities of Cazin and Bihac are in a process of completion of a detailed procedure of medical examinations, while teachers who will work with children have completed additional education.

“The Health Center in Cazin has already finished detailed medical examinations for 30 children of elementary school age who are staying at the Sedra reception center. At the completation of the same process is the Health Center in Bihac, which is doing the checkup of approximately 100 children of the same age at the reception centers of in Borici and Bira. Teachers have undergone special education and additional money will also be provided for them, “said Kreso.

He emphasized that around 130 children in the Bihac and Cazin area will be included in the initial phase of the educational process in the four primary schools.

According to information from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), some 3,000 migrants and refugees are currently in the Una-Sana Canton and are all removed from the streets, parks and are accommodated in the reception centers of Bira and Djakovo in Bihac, Sedra in Cazin and Miral in Velika Kladusa.

A total of 23,541 migrants entered the territory of BiH from Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 19, 2018, BiH Council of Ministers (CoM) stated at a regular session in December 2018.

Out of the total number, 22,177 migrants expressed their intention for asylum, but 1,358 actually applied for asylum, the information from BiH Foreigners Office showed.

Currently, there are between 4,000 and 5,000 migrants on the territory of BiH, mainly near the cities near the border with Croatia, from where migrants are attempting to enter the European Union (EU) countries.
