The White House stated in a court filing that Elon Musk serves as a senior advisor to the United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump, and that he is not an employee of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and has no decision-making authority there.

In the filing signed by Joshua Fisher, Director of the White House Office of Administration, it was stated that Musk holds the position of “senior advisor to the president” and clarified:

“Like other senior White House advisors, Musk has no real or formal authority to make government decisions on his own.”

Fisher emphasized that Musk is not an employee of the U.S. DOGE service or its temporary organization, explaining:

“Mr. Musk is not the administrator of the U.S. DOGE service.”

Fisher’s filing was submitted to U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is reviewing a legal challenge by Democratic state attorneys aiming to prevent Musk and his associates from DOGE from influencing the federal government.

President Donald Trump appointed Musk, who has no experience in public service or administration, to lead DOGE – a task force aimed at optimizing federal operations and reducing unnecessary spending.
