The World Health Organization said it has not received medical supplies in the Gaza Strip for 10 days as Israel continues a new offensive against Hamas.

“Israel’s closure of the Rafah crossing in Gaza caused a “difficult situation”. The last medical material we received in Gaza was before May 6,” said WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic, reports Frans 24.

Israeli troops entered Rafah on May 7 to extend their offensive against Hamas and close Egypt’s Rafah crossing, which is crucial for humanitarian supplies.

With UN agencies warning of a growing risk of famine in Gaza, the Kerem Shalom and Erez crossings from Israel are also all but closed.

Jašarević said that the biggest concern was the fuel needed for the operation of clinics and hospitals. Health facilities in Gaza need up to 1.8 million liters of fuel per month to continue operating.

The spokesman said only 159,000 liters had entered Rafah since the border was closed, and pointed out that only 13 of the 36 hospitals across the Palestinian territory were now “partially” operating.
