Winter Returns in BiH as Spring Waits in the Wings

In some parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the morning dawned with snow, mostly accompanied by low temperatures. The forecast for the coming days is minus and frost. Spring is on the horizon. When will the temperatures return to normal for the season?

Although spring has long since arrived, this weekend snow surprised us again. The morning is accompanied by minus temperatures below average for this period of the year. We checked until when we will have a winter idyll in the middle of spring.

“The atmosphere will not be completely stable for the next 15 days, so there may be short-term, light rain in BiH, but it should be emphasized that the air temperature will be within the usual limits for this time of year. We expect snow in the coming days only on the highest mountains in BiH, and very small amounts,” announces meteorologist Bakir Krajinović.

According to meteorologists’ forecasts, the lowest air temperatures are expected on Monday, down to -6 degrees. There is a warning of ice in mountainous areas. Farmers are advised to take measures to protect their crops.

April frost could pose a risk to agriculture because it could cause damage to plants.

“If there is frost as announced, fruit could suffer a lot. What is indoors can be protected, it is already protected practically, add a little more protection, warm it up a little and it will survive, but the problem is what is outdoors will probably suffer. There is already excess moisture, excess rain, sowing is delayed due to weather conditions,” says Nedžad Bićo from the Association of Farmers of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Although temperatures are below average for April these days, they will increase by the end of next week. According to meteorologists’ forecasts, morning temperatures will be above zero, and daytime temperatures will be up to 20 degrees.
