Woman drowns in Miljacka River in Bosnia’s Capital

The Operational Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton confirmed for FENA that a woman drowned last night in the Miljacka River.

The Mountain Rescue Service (GSS) of the Municipality Novi Grad confirmed that a little after 02.00 a.m. at the call of the on-duty operational Mountain Rescue Service of the Sarajevo Canton, the Civil Protection Operational Center of Sarajevo Canton, the Civil Protection Operational Center of the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo were informed that a young woman had an accident and fell into the swollen Miljacka River in Skenderija settlement.

They said that at 3:58 a.m. the search and rescue teams spotted a body in the swollen Miljacka, not far from the Center for Education, Sports and Recreation “Safet Zajko”.

The rescuers proceeded to extract the lifeless body to the river bank with the presence and help of police officers of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton, where the investigation was carried out.
