15.000 Consumers Without Electricity, Institutions Of Special Importance Are A Priority

After the stabilization of the supply to customers of Elektroprivreda Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) two days ago, heavy freezing rain that caused ice buildup on power lines led to the emergence of new faults on the distribution network and facilities.

Currently, around 15.000 consumers are without electricity, mostly in the Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDC), where 6.600 are without supply, and about 3.500 in the Tuzla Canton (TC).

There are also supply interruptions in the Una-Sana Canton (USC), Central Bosnia Canton (CBC), Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), and Canton Sarajevo (CS).

The priority in ensuring a stable supply is given to institutions and facilities of special importance, such as hospitals, health centers, and others.

The elimination of most current faults is expected by the evening hours; however, the unpredictability of the situation means that, due to the emergence of new faults, the number of customers without electricity is constantly changing.

A complicating circumstance for repairs continues to be the inaccessibility of terrain due to high snowdrifts and fallen trees, especially in rural areas.

The announcement of new snowfall, the occurrence of groundwater, and landslides that could endanger the facilities of the Elektroprivreda BiH and consequently lead to possible preventive disconnections of facilities from the grid represent a new danger to maintaining system stability.

More intense snowfall forecast for the next 24 hours may cause new problems in supply, especially in the area of the USC, as well as in Konjic, Jablanica, Busovaca, Kiseljak, Fojnica, and Bugojno.

“Thanks to monitoring weather forecasts and their development, the teams of the Elektroprivreda BiH are acting preventively in order to reduce system vulnerability to the lowest possible level. All available human and technical capacities of the company are continuously in the field, making maximum efforts to repair damage to the network and facilities and to ensure orderly supply,” the Elektroprivreda BiH stated in a press release.
