Analysis: Significant Decrease in Tourists Arrivals recorded across Bosnia and Herzegovina

In August this year, there were a total of 71,589 tourist arrivals in Bosnia and Hercegovina which represent an increase by 50.9% as compared to July 2020 and a decrease by 65.0% as compared to August 2019.

Tourists realized 207,720 overnight stays, which represent an increase by 54.3% as compared to July 2020 and decrease by 54.3% as compared to August 2019. Domestic tourist’s share of total number of overnight stays was 75.2% and foreign tourists’ share was 24.8%.

The number of overnight stays realized by domestic tourists increased by 39.7% as compared to July 2020 and increased by 60.4% as compared to August 2019. The number of overnight stays realized by foreign tourists increased by 126.5% as compared to July 2020 and decreased by 85.6% as compared to August 2019.

Concerning the structure of overnight stays realized by foreign tourists, most of them (81.6%) were realized by tourists from: Serbia with (62.0%), Croatia (7.8%), Slovenia and the United Arab Emirates by (4.3%) and Germany (3.2%). Tourists from other countries realized 18.4% of overnight stays.

Regarding the average stay of foreign tourist stays in our country on the first place comes: Japan with average stay by 26.0 nights, Republic of Korea 15.0 nights, India 11.7 nights, South Africa 8.7 nights, Hungary 7.1 nights and Malasia with 6.0 nights.

Available rooms, apartments and camping sites for tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina in August 2020 amounted to 16,234 which is 24.3% decrease compared to August 2019. The number of available beds was 34.892 beds, which is decreased by 25.1%, compared to the same month of 2019.

In August 2020, in the activity – hotels and similar accommodation, number of rooms and apartments available to tourists amounted to 14,718, which is a decrease of 20.6% compared to August 2019, and the number of available beds amounted to 30,191 which is a decrease of 21.1%, compared to the same month of the previous year.

The net occupancy rate of permanent beds in August 2020 was 20.1%.

According to the type of accommodation facility, the highest number of nights was recorded in hotels and similar accommodation with a share of 93.8%
