The inflow of foreign direct investment in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2019 amounted to 699 million BAM, according to the data of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), which published the foreign direct investment statistics for 2019.

In terms of geographical distribution, the largest inflow of investments during 2019 was from Russia  (211 million BAM), and then from Croatia (117 million BAM).

Observed by activities, most investments were made in the field of the production of coke and refined petroleum products (202 million), financial services (banking sector, 154 million), and in the field of wholesale trade (92 million).

Lower inflows of investments compared to 2018, which, according to the revised data, amounted to 952 million BAM, were caused, among other things, by increased dividend payments in the last quarter of 2019, as well as the acquisitions of foreign-owned companies by local companies.

At the end of 2019, the balance of foreign direct investment amounted to 15.02 billion BAM. This amount is the result of investments in previous years, as well as the operations of foreign-owned companies. The largest amount of direct investments still refers to Austria (2.7 billion BAM), Croatia (2.4 billion BAM) and Serbia (close to 2.0 billion BAM).

Observed by activities, the highest amount of foreign direct investment was recorded in the area of financial services  3.7 billion BAM), followed by telecommunications (1.7 billion BAM) and wholesale trade (1.2 billion BAM).

In accordance with the revision policy and on the basis of additional data, the publication of 2019 data includes the revisions for the previous two years as well.
