In a fire that broke out on the third floor of the Cantonal Public Institution “Home for Children Without Parental Care” (Children’s Home “Bjelave”) 18 years ago today, six babies (four boys and two girls), residents of this institution, died.

On that fateful April 22, 2007, the youngest residents of the Children’s Home Bjelave lost their lives; Medina Bostandžija, Al`dina-Dalal Akmadžić, Amin Čustović, Džemal Šabanović, Faik Krasnići and Damir Pejanović, while eighteen children were seriously and slightly injured.

As a reminder, the fire in the “Bjelave” Home was caused by a heater.

The babies died from inhaling harmful gases, and the oldest residents of the Home participated in their evacuation, along with the employees.

A delegation from the Sarajevo Canton and employees and residents of the “Bjelave” Children’s Home will lay flowers today at the memorial and small graves of the tragically lost children at the cemetery in Vlakovo.
