20th Anniversary of Dayton a good Opportunity to question whether it met the Expectations

Dayton Anniversary klix.baDuring the roundtable “Twenty Years since Dayton” which was held in Sarajevo yesterday, the ad hoc delegation of the European Parliament discussed the future of B&H and its European integration with local experts and politically active youth.

Igor Šoltes from the Republic of Slovenia, member of the Greens/European Free Alliance in the European Parliament, stated that the Dayton Agreement has shaped the present B&H with all its advantages and weaknesses. Furthermore, Šoltes added, the twentieth anniversary of Dayton is a good moment to question whether it met the expectations and if any changes can be made in order to achieve progress.

“In theory, the Dayton Agreement can survive for the next 20 years as well, but people are those who lose the most. I am afraid that, unless something is changed, more and more young and educated people will look for a job outside B&H and a question arises: what is the perspective then?” Šoltes said.

Member of the Greens/European Free Alliance in the European Parliament from the Republic of Croatia assessed that the roundtable discussion is interesting, adding that not only problems are being identified, but also the solutions which could be found for B&H in the future.

The delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the FB&H Edin Forto said that it was emphasized at this gathering that the Dayton Agreement, regardless of all its flaws, is not appreciated enough as an instrument that stopped the war.
