A boat carrying irregular migrants capsized off the coast of Sfax, in eastern Tunisia, killing 27 people.

Hatem Cherif, the director of the Sfax health office, said the incident occurred near the Karkanah islands and that 25 people were rescued in the accident, while the bodies of 27 victims were found.

The Tunisian official added that the migrants were from sub-Saharan Africa.

A report by the Tunisian National Guard published in June stated that 714 bodies of irregular migrants were found in 2023, while in 2024, the number was 462 by May, AA writes.
