316 People applied to volunteer at the Potocari Memorial Center on the Oral History Project

The Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial Center invited volunteers to, with the aim of contributing to the preservation of the memory of the genocide and Srebrenica, apply by the end of the month to participate in the oral history project realized by that institution.

The Memorial Center in Potocari has been working on this project for three years, and through it, video testimonies of surviving victims of the genocide in Srebrenica are recorded.

”Since we have a team working on translating, transcribing, indexing, and subtitling all these testimonies, the workload has increased and we need volunteers. As an institution, we have issued a public invitation to all students of the English language and those in their final years of study. We need volunteers to translate from English to Bosnian, or from Bosnian to English because our team cannot reach everyone,” said the spokesperson of the Memorial Center, Almasa Salihovic.

So far, 316 people have applied for the invitation, and the application deadline is January 31st, 2023.

Volunteer program participants will also receive a certificate as proof of volunteer work.

The oral history project is one of the priority projects of the Memorial Center, mostly due to the fact that many surviving witnesses die, and their testimonies are not stored in the only institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) that deals with preserving the memory of the victims and genocide in Srebrenica.
