77th Anniversary of the Battle of Sutjeska marked

In the Valley of Heroes at Tjentiste, the 77th anniversary of the Battle of Sutjeska was marked on Saturday, in which the People’s Liberation Army managed to get out of the ring of the six times larger German occupier in World War II, killing more than 7,000 fighters.

This year, due to protection measures against the coronavirus, there was no usual cultural and artistic program, and the number of visitors was limited, Avaz news portal reports.

The Minister of Labor-Veterans’ and Disabled Protection of Republika Srpska, Dusko Milunovic, pointed out that it is especially important to mark the anniversary of this glorious battle, because there are neo-fascist forces that have been encouraged lately.

“We must send a clear anti-fascist message from these areas, to talk about the evil that fascism has inflicted on Europe and the whole world,” said Milunovic. Spasoje Lubarda from Cetinje, whose brother Ljubo died in Sutjeska, says that he has been visiting the Valley of Heroes regularly since 1958.

My brother was among the severely wounded, among the thousands who left bones here. They are forgotten, which is sad, because the Battle of Sutjeska is a great epic.

The greatest Yugoslav hero Savo Kovacevic died here, and the greatest Kosovo hero Milos Obilic was born here, says Lubarda.

Delegations of the Government and the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska, led by Minister Milunovic, an envoy of the Serbian member of the BiH Presidency Bosko Tomic, the mayor of Foca Radisav Masic, representatives of SUBNOR Serbia and RS, and admirers of the partisan movement laid wreaths and flowers at the memorial.
