Two teenage brothers have been arrested following the tragic death of their sister following an argument over Christmas presents.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, a 23-year-old woman was fatally shot in the chest by her 14-year-old brother while her 10-month-old son was next to her in a carrier.

He was then shot by his 15-year-old brother, who drew his gun. The shooting reportedly followed an argument over who would get more gifts.

Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told reporters that amid the chaos, the 15-year-old’s older brother ran from the scene, dropping his weapon along the way. The 14-year-old middle brother, who was injured in the accident, is currently hospitalized in a stable condition and will be taken into custody after his release.

According to Jutarnji, authorities in Florida have identified the firearm used in the incident. Local prosecutors will review the case to determine if the 14-year-old will face adult charges in the tragic killing of his sister, Sheriff Gualtieri said.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, the woman succumbed to her injuries, suffering internal bleeding that prevented her from breathing. Fortunately, the baby in the carrier came out of the fight unharmed.

The 15-year-old was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. The case will be subject to further investigation by local prosecutors, BBC writes.
