The Minister of Education of Sarajevo Canton, Naida Hota-Muminović, spoke with the representatives of the Board for Inclusive Education about achieving a greater degree of inclusion of children with disabilities in school education.
The board signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the line ministry, which includes their active participation in working groups for changes to various ordinances and laws on education, as well as in the development of the Special Program of the Government of Sarajevo Canton for the improvement of inclusion in Sarajevo Canton.
The meeting discussed the part of the Government’s Special Program related to the establishment of early intervention, which would provide holistic support not only to children with disabilities from birth, but also to their families.
During the meeting, the importance of improving preschool upbringing and education was highlighted, regardless of the status of the institution attended by the disabled child.
“I emphasize how important it is for us to include children with disabilities in the education system. Our goal is to strengthen resources within education, but also interdepartmental cooperation in order to achieve a greater degree of inclusion. We are working to ensure that every child, regardless of their status, has equal chances for quality education,” Minister Hota-Muminović pointed out.
Through participation in the working group, the Board contributed to drafting and harmonizing the Law on Elementary and Secondary Education of Sarajevo Canton with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the participants of the meeting called on the representatives in the Assembly to adopt that law as soon as possible.
The commitment to building an inclusive society in which the rights of all citizens are equally respected is directly related to and conditioned by inclusion in education, which ensures early learning, growth and development in the peer group, acceptance, understanding and respect for diversity, announced the CS press and protocol service.
