A drone attack on the headquarters of an Iran-backed militia in eastern Baghdad on Thursday killed at least four fighters and wounded six others, police and security sources said.
Among the victims was Abu Takwa al-Saadi, the local commander of the Al-Nujaba’a militia group and one of his aides.
Witnesses and police sources said at least two rockets hit a building used by the Iraqi militia group al-Nujaba’a, which is linked to the Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) near Iran.
Blaming the United States for the attack, the group’s spokesman and two Iraqi militia commanders threatened retaliation.
“We will retaliate and make the Americans regret carrying out this aggression,” warned local Iraqi militia commander Abu Aqeel al-Moussawi.
Local media reports that Hashd al-Shaabi’s logistics department in Baghdad was hit in an airstrike, resulting in casualties.
Iraqi security forces have been deployed to the area and a security team has arrived at the scene for an initial investigation, two security sources said.
So far, there has been no comment from Washington about the aforementioned attack, AA writes.
