Construction of the motorway on Corridor Vc in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) is continuing according to the planned schedule, and already during this quarter, drivers could get a new motorway section on the route from Doboj towards Zenica. It is the Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo section, located near Tesanj.

FBiH Motorways said that works on the 8.5-kilometre-long route are progressing without delays, that the route has been fully completed, and that only finishing touches remain for it to be fully ready to be handed over for use to the citizens of BiH.

This year is planned as a period in which several sections will be opened to traffic, one after another, and the first of them is precisely Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo, where the works were carried out by Euroasfalt.

The route is located on the last part of the motorway in the FBiH, and to the north it connects to the motorway in Republika Srpska (RS), leading towards Gradiska.

Although this section will not be of greater use for ordinary passengers in BiH, given that it connects to the Ozimica – Medakovo section, which will be opened somewhat later, and which will have direct entry/exit from the M-17 main road near Zepce.

However, this section will have special importance for the area of Tesanj, Usora, and Doboj Jug, especially for businesses, as it represents a key connection of the north of the country with the central part of BiH.

More than just the motorway

In addition to the route itself, the project also included a series of other complex infrastructure works, including the construction and completion of engineering and hydrotechnical facilities, which are necessary for the long-term safety and functionality of the route, the regulation of the Usora and Tesanjka rivers, and numerous other projects.

Along with the construction of the motorway, reconstructions of the local road towards Tesanj were also carried out, the construction of the Bukva – Tesanjka water supply system, as well as the relocation and adaptation of parts of the existing road infrastructure, and projects related to the power grid.

FBiH Motorways previously emphasized that the goal of the project is for Corridor Vc to bring concrete benefits not only to transit traffic, but also to local communities, through better connectivity, safer traffic, and the improvement of communal infrastructure.

On the Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo section, the Tesanjka 1 and Tesanjka 2 bridges stand out in particular, as well as the smaller Hrastik tunnel.

In addition to the above, the section includes several bridges and overpasses, underpasses, hydrotechnical facilities, as well as traffic interchanges, thereby ensuring full functionality and safety of the motorway in line with applicable European standards.

Plans for the coming period

According to the already known plan, the opening of the Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo section is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, somewhat later, the opening of the route near Zenica, Vranduk – Ponirak – Nemila, is planned, and somewhat later, towards the end of the year, the Medakovo – Ozimica section as well.

With this pace, the citizens of BiH will feel the greater benefit of using the motorway only towards the end of the year, when all the significant sections that connect to one another are fully opened, Klix.ba writes.
