A Petition for Recognition of Kosovo’s Independence was launched in Ukraine

Oleksiy Goncharenko, a Ukrainian representative and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, announced today that he has launched a petition for Ukraine to recognize Kosovo’s independence.

The petition asks Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to consider the possibility of recognizing Kosovo. It is noted that Kosovo was recognized by powerful Western countries, including the United States of America, and that the International Court of Justice decided that the declaration of Kosovo’s independence does not violate international law.

“Russia does not recognize Kosovo and considers those countries to be Serbian. At the same time, Kremlin propagandists are saying that in the Balkans it is necessary to take ‘the same actions as Putin did on February 24.’ Serbia is trying to start wars, justifying its actions with national problems. Now the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Kosovo would show the support and solidarity of Ukraine in the fight for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of this country. And it would also show that Ukraine, like the Western world, supports justice and stands on side of the truth,” reads the petition launched on Wednesday.

I filed a petition to the President of Ukraine with a request to recognize the independence of Kosovo.

If the petition collects 25,000 signatures, the president must respond to it.

As Goncharenko announced, if the petition receives 25,000 signatures, President Zelenski must give a definitive answer. Kosovo joined Western countries in condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Goncharenko submitted a resolution on the recognition of Kosovo to the parliament of his country.

At the end of October, he visited Kosovo.
