A safe and secure Environment allows Brcko to focus fully on Reforms

Principal Deputy High Representative and Brčko District Supervisor Michael Scanlan, together with the EUFOR Commander, Major General Anton Vessely, met on Wednesday with the District leadership and the Chief of Brčko Police. The Supervisor commended the District authorities’ focus on maintaining internal cohesion and a secure environment as highlighted in their joint statement last December. As the statement underscored, the priority is the implementation of reforms and the fight against corruption as a basis for prosperity for the entire Brčko community; it is time for words to become reality, underscored the Supervisor.

Earlier this week, the Supervisor had fruitful discussions with the BiH Presidency Chair Šefik Džaferović and BiH Minister of Transport and Communications Vojin Mitrović on the pending State-level decisions to proceed with the EBRD Water Supply Project in the District and the reconstruction of the Brčko-Gunja Bridge.

On Thursday, the Supervisor attended a meeting of the World Bank mission with senior District officials on the next steps to advance projects proposed under the Sava and Drina Rivers Corridors Integrated Development Program in Brčko – the regulation of Brka and Blizna waterways, the environmentally compliant sealing of the existing landfill, the creation of a state-of-the-art waste management center, and the promenade along the Sava River. These projects will accelerate the District’s transition towards a clean and flood-proof environment, and foster the development of local infrastructure that will bolster Brčko’s regional connectivity, said the Supervisor.
