A Satellite Weighing Two Tons is falling over BiH, an Explosion in the Sky could be seen

The satellite of the European Space Agency (ESA) under the name ERS-2 will fall to Earth today, and will also fly over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

ERS-2 was launched from Earth in 1995 and was used to map our planet, and it stopped working in 2011. ESA scientists have estimated that it will crash to Earth within 25 years, and it was announced yesterday that it is expected to happen today.

During its fall to Earth, the 11-meter-wide and 2.3-ton satellite will also fly over Central Europe tonight, and according to the latest estimates from the website n2yo.com, which tracks satellite trajectories above the Earth, it will fly over Bosnia and Herzegovina at 5:54 p.m.

Given that it is an uncontrolled fall, the exact time of its flight over BiH is still unknown, given that its trajectory changes slightly because the satellite is affected by atmospheric friction.

As it makes its way through the atmosphere, it will begin to disintegrate in a spectacular explosion. If it happens at the moment when it flies over our country and it is clear, you will be able to see it, and even record and photograph it, given that the satellite will move ten times slower than meteors that travel through the Earth’s atmosphere at a speed of 70 km per second.

It should be emphasized that there is no danger of ERS-2 falling on the territory of our country. Even if it disintegrates over Bosnia and Herzegovina, those parts will burn up in the atmosphere and will not fall to the ground, and the rest will fall into the ocean, ESA reported, Klix.ba writes.

The latest updated predictions of when the ERS-2 satellite will be visible over Bosnia and Herzegovina can be viewed here.
