The Gaza Strip must be brought under the control of the legitimate Palestinian Authority, and Israel’s plans for temporary control of the Palestinian enclave are unacceptable, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told Russia’s RIA news agency in an interview published on Tuesday.

“Gaza must be governed under the auspices of the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) and the legitimate Palestinian government,” Abbas told RIA in an interview published in Russian.

“We are strongly opposed to the Israeli plans that envisage some temporary solutions,” said the Palestinian leader.

RIA also reported that Abbas will visit Russia from August 12 to 14, citing a diplomatic source, Reuters reports.
