About two million of its citizens live outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). This is shown by the data of the World Alliance of the Diaspora of BiH.

The largest number of them left BiH during the war in this country, at the beginning of the nineties of the last century.

In six years, more than half a million people left BiH

However, the state of war is not the only reason for leaving. A large number of citizens left BiH after 1995. The reasons are the unstable political and economic situation in the country. The average salary is currently around 550 euros.

The BiH diaspora lives in more than 50 countries around the world. Most of them are in Serbia, Croatia, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States (U.S.), Canada, and Australia.

About 150.000 of them renounced their BiH citizenship

According to the latest population census from 2013, there are 3.5 million inhabitants in BiH. This is about 800.000 citizens less than determined by the 1991 census.
