As a precaution, four companies with about 500 members of the EUFOR reserve force stationed outside Bosnia and Herzegovina will be deployed in the country in the next two weeks, as reinforcements to the existing forces, in order to support our BiH more effectively in maintaining a safe and stable environment, EUFOR in BiH said.
The deteriorating security situation at the international level could potentially cause instability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The deployment of these forces is a precautionary measure, taken to strengthen stability in BiH, by positioning a sufficient number of capable forces in the country to support BH institutions while maintaining a safe and stable environment. Their task will be to show the EU’s determination to maintain stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, EUFOR said.
It is a prudent and appropriate measure that reflects the EU and EUFOR’s unequivocal commitment to preserving Bosnia and Herzegovina’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The EUFOR force has been deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2004, and consists of approximately 3,500 members, of which about 600 are currently deployed in the country. With troops soon to be deployed, the number of EUFOR members stationed in BiH will be around 1,100.
These staff will come from Austria, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia.
EUFOR estimates that there is currently no threat to a secure and stable environment that would require EUFOR support. The situation is continuously monitored and additional reinforcements can be brought in if necessary.
