Adis Ahmetovic, a member of the German Bundestag (SPD) of Bosnian and Herzegovinian (BiH) origin, announced that he had overcome lymph node cancer, which was diagnosed in May 2024.
“October 11th, 2024 – my second birthday! As you know, since early May 2024, I had to step back due to the diagnosis of ‘lymph node cancer’ and have been undergoing treatment over the past few months. Now I can say proudly: I have beaten cancer. I would like to thank the team of doctors and nurses at the Hematology Clinic, led by Prof. Florian Heidel at the Medical University, for the incredible work they did. From now on, October 11th feels like a second birthday,” Ahmetovic wrote.
He expressed that it is a great relief and joy for his family, friends, and office team and said he feels full of strength and confidence.
“The fact that I can share this also has to do with the support I felt from all of you during this time. I read every message you sent, and each one contributed to my recovery. I want to sincerely thank you all for that. The next step is a gradual return to the turbulent and sometimes crazy daily routine, one small step at a time,” Ahmetovic noted.
He emphasized his deep passion for his role in the Bundestag and his commitment to being a strong voice for his city, hoping to secure a direct win again in his constituency north of Hanover.
“In these challenging times, we need social democracy to pursue the right policies for everyone committed to our country and striving for peaceful coexistence. I look forward to continuing this work with all of you. Now, let’s enjoy the weekend!” concluded Ahmetovic.
