Afghanistan and Pakistan reached an Agreement on an immediate Ceasefire

Afghanistan and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire during talks in Doha, both sides said.

The talks came after a week of fierce fighting on the border between the two countries, the worst violence between the South Asian neighbours since the Taliban took power in Kabul in 2021.

The ceasefire has been finalized, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif announced on IX.

He said the two sides would meet again on October 25 in Istanbul to discuss detailed issues.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the parties had agreed to a complete and meaningful ceasefire.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, which has been mediating the talks along with Turkey, said the follow-up meetings were aimed at “ensuring the sustainability of the ceasefire and verifying its implementation in a credible and sustainable manner.”

Pakistan and Afghanistan want to normalize relations after clashes left dozens dead and hundreds injured.
