Disturbing and scandalous scenes were recorded on Saturday after the commemoration at Lake Zvornik. While many participants of the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, returning from Potočari, passed by the lake, music and songs calling for a new genocide could be heard from the raft.
We remind you that with the burial of the remains of ten victims in the Srebrenica Memorial Center – Potočari, the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN Safe Zone Srebrenica has ended. In a place where pain, truth and memory meet anew every year, the coffins of people whose lives were violently ended 31 years ago were lowered today. Their families have been waiting for decades for the found bones to be named, and the name of the grave where they can recite the Fatiha, leave a flower and talk to their loved ones in silence.
So far, 6,772 victims of genocide have been buried in the Srebrenica – Potočari Memorial Center, while the remains of hundreds of those killed are still being searched for. In the identification centers, there are the remains of already identified victims whose families have not yet given consent for burial, often hoping that some more bones of their loved ones will be found.
