After the Restoration, the Cajnice Gospel was returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina

The National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) the Cajnice Gospel was returned to the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother of God in Cajnice after restoration and conservation in Serbia.

The Cajnice Monastery said that on this occasion, on Saturday, March 25th, in the church in Cajnice, where this precious cultural treasure of BiH is kept, a promotion of the restored Gospel will be held.

The Cajnice Gospel is the only medieval manuscript book of ecclesiastical character from the then-state of Bosnia, which has been preserved in BiH to this day.

According to the peculiarities of the language, the Gospel is dated to the early 15th century, and it was written on the soil of eastern Bosnia.

It is owned by the Serbian Orthodox Church, but it is a national monument of BiH. Recently, it came into the public’s focus after it was found out that it is not in Cajnice, where it was kept. Many pointed out that it was taken out of BiH illegally, given that a special procedure and approval are needed to take out a national monument, regardless of who owns it.

It turned out that the gospel was being restored in Serbia for more than a year, and the elder of the temple in Cajnice, Dragisa Simic, promised that it would be returned as soon as the conservation work was completed, Klix.ba reports.
