The Agency for the Water Area of the Adriatic Sea has issued a warning regarding the predicted heavy rainfall forecast for Wednesday, October 9.

As announced by the Agency, as a result of the forecasted rainfall (between 30 and 60 liters of rainfall per square meter) at most hydrological stations in the water area of the Adriatic Sea, an increase in water levels is forecast, especially in the part of the TMT flood area (Tihaljina, Mlade, Trebižat) and the middle and lower Neretva with its tributaries.

The warning is issued due to the current situation in flooded areas due to the possible occurrence of torrential streams and landslides, and covers the municipalities and cities: Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar, Čapljina, Grude, Ljubuški, Široki Brijeg and Posušje.

The relevant institutions are advised to monitor the situation and act in accordance with their powers, adhering to the Federal Flood Defense Operational Plan, and we recommend additional caution to the services that carry out protection measures, rescue of people and material goods.

Competent Civil Protection services should warn the population in areas along rivers that do not have built-in protective water facilities of the danger of approaching the shores due to possible increases in the depth and speed of water in the rivers, and provide a timely notification with instructions and guidelines for behavior so that the population is able to implement measures in order to reduce possible damages from the harmful effects of water.

Last week, a large rainstorm caused floods and landslides in parts of Central Bosnia and Herzegovina-Neretva County, and Jablanica, Konjic, Kreševo, Kiseljak and Fojnica were the hardest hit.

According to data from the meteorological stations of the Agency for the Water Area of the Adriatic Sea, as much as 323 liters of rain per square meter fell in the area of Jablanica in 24 hours, in Konjic 167 liters, in Drežnica 231 liters, in Jasenjani 123 liters, in Mostar 29 liters and in Široki It holds 87 liters.

16 people died in flash floods and landslides in Jablanica, two people died in Fojnica and three in Konjic.
