meetingLeaders of the three ruling parties in the FBiH, who met with US Ambassador Maureen Cormack last night in an attempt to resolve the issue of holding elections in Mostar, have not reached an agreement.

After the meeting, they stated that they are not far from solution, and that they will try to reach an agreement in the next 10 days.

“We are thoroughly committed for the elections to be held on the 2nd of October. It is a commitment. We discussed all ideas and proposals once again, along with the reasons that exist. I am convinced that the local elections can be held, and it must be done this year. I’m optimistic. I will do everything that no one feels threatened in Mostar. We were guarantors that whatever is agreed – HDZ will implement. We will communicate in the next period,” said Covic after the meeting.

“I have to say that the coalition SDA – SBB had unified position again this time. Unfortunately, positions of the HDZ were not such that we could agree to any of these solutions. We will work very hard in the next few days to try to get positive results,” said Radoncic.

On the other hand, Izetbegovic said that the SDA and HDZ were close to reach a solution even last winter.

“Depressive split and vacuum happened. It is good that the US and British Embassy came to help us, to get our positions closer. SBB is helpful, and these days we should be intensively working on a solution,” said Izetbegovic.
