The Federal Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry and the Vice Prime Minister of FBiH Jerko Ivanković-Lijanović and the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Food in Sarajevo, Prof. dr. Mirsad Kurtović signed an agreement today on the construction of a medium-term strategy for the development of the agriculture sector in the FBiH for the period from 2014-2018.

The purpose of the strategy is to define a strategic commitment and goals of agricultural sector in FBiH through a detailed analysis of the current situation. The general orientation of the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU (ZAP) will be taken into account, where emphasis will be placed on the need for the continued need for growth in competition, improvement of quality and food safety, and protection of public health and environmental preservation.

Minister Jerko Ivanković Lijanović said that the medium-term strategy is the best investment of the Ministry this ear, noting that the purpose of the document is the harmonization of domestic agriculture with the EU agricultural sector, in the context of the negotiation process and the beginning of talks for BiH’s accession to the EU.

He also stressed the importance of defining the major incentives for agriculture in future EU talks, adding as an example Croatia, which contracted the incentives over 700 million euros, while BiH would have to try to come to around 500-600 million KM of incentives.

The strategy would have to be finished until the end of the year, after which they would be addressed in a public hearing and approval in the FBiH and in the parliamentary procedure. Its construction will cost 275,000 KM.
