Aida Peko Becomes First Woman From BiH To Conquer Manaslu, One Of The Deadliest Himalayan Peaks

Aida Peko, by climbing the eighth-highest mountain in the world, became the first woman from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to do so and conquer Manaslu.

At the peak of 8.163 meters, Aida arrived on September 26th, 2025, at 7:15 a.m. local time, within the Elite Exped expedition.

Her name is now entered among the rare female alpinists who dared to step onto one of the most dangerous peaks of the Himalayas. The expedition recorded great success because that day, a total of 26 team members reached the summit.

Nevertheless, a special place is held by Aida’s feat, because with her ascent, she pushed the boundaries in domestic mountaineering and laid the foundation for future generations of women who dream of high mountains.

Manaslu is also known as the “mountain of the spirit,” its name derived from the Sanskrit word manasa, which means mind or soul.

The first ascent was recorded by Japanese alpinist Toshio Imanishi and Sherpa Gyalzen Norbu back in 1956. Because of its steep slopes, avalanches, and unstable weather conditions, Manaslu is considered one of the technically more demanding and dangerous Himalayan peaks. So far, more than three thousand mountaineers have conquered it, while nearly ninety lost their lives in the attempt.

Aida’s feat on Manaslu is not only a personal success but also a symbolic victory for BiH mountaineering, Klix.ba writes.
