Jasmin Mehanović, Director of the Brčko Health Center, told reporters that nine patients are currently being treated at the facility; they are not in life-threatening condition. Two other patients have been transferred to the University Clinical Center in Tuzla for further treatment.
Mehanović stated that the patients are housed in the surgical ward and are receiving all necessary medical care in accordance with established protocols.
Regarding next steps and potential transfers, Mehanović explained that any decision to transport the injured back to their home country will be made by the Italian Embassy, whose representatives are expected to arrive later today.
As for the two patients transferred to the University Clinical Center in Tuzla, Mehanović confirmed that they are also out of danger. Following a consultation, doctors in Tuzla will determine the appropriate course of treatment – whether conservative (non-surgical) or surgical.
He added that a doctor sent from Italy has been present at the Brčko hospital ward since last night to provide support.
As a reminder, an Italian military CH-47 helicopter, deployed as part of the EUFOR Althea mission, crashed on Thursday afternoon near Brčko. Four members of the Italian military died in the accident, and 11 people were injured. The Mayor of Brčko, Siniša Milić, has declared today a Day of Mourning, Fena writes.
