Bosnian international Amar Dedić is the new signing of English Premier League club Newcastle United. Dedić joins the club from Portuguese giants Benfica. The 24-year-old, who will wear the number 37 shirt, has signed a five-year contract and becomes the sixth signing of the summer at St. James’ Park.
Dedić has already worked with Magpies coach Matthias Jaissle, under whose guidance he played in Austria in the early stages of his career, playing for FC Liefering and Red Bull Salzburg, the English club said.
“It is a special feeling and a great honour for me to join Newcastle United. I am delighted to be here and I can’t wait to start playing for the club and its incredible fans. Working with Matthias again was one of the key reasons for my arrival. We know each other well, he knows what I can bring to the team on the pitch and I am very happy to play under his guidance again,” said Dedić.
Coach Matthias Jaissle added that he was happy to bring Dedić to the team.
“He is a player I know very well, having worked with him since his youth in Austria and following his career since then. He will bring both defensive and offensive qualities to our team, which fits perfectly with the style of football we want to play. He is athletic, aggressive and technically very good, but he also has great potential for further progress. Amar is still young, but he already has a lot of valuable experience. He played in the Champions League and the World Cup, and has also played for big clubs in Austria, France and Portugal. I am really looking forward to working with him again,”!said Jaissle.
Dedić, who celebrates his 24th birthday today, became the first Bosnian footballer to sign for Newcastle, and he will make his debut in the opening match of the Premier League against Liverpool.
