Ambassador Arnaut comments on the Results of the Elections in Germany

The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Federal Republic of Germany, Damir Arnaut, stated that the results of the early elections in Germany confirmed the findings of the pre-election surveys, almost to the point: no party can form a government on its own and therefore Germany will again have a coalition government.

According to him, it is not yet certain which parties will be in it, or whether it will be two or three parties.

“What is certain is that the AfD will remain in opposition, because all the main parties have officially and explicitly rejected any possibility of a coalition with them. Although it is indeed still too early to confirm, most analysts agree that we will once again have the so-called “Grand Coalition”, or CDU/CSU-SPD, which will be led by CDU leader Friedrich Merz. Whether a third partner will be necessary and who it will be, in that case, remains to be seen,” Ambassador Arnaut stated in a statement to Fena news agency.

However, he added that whatever the outcome, the policy towards Bosnia and Herzegovina will remain unchanged.

“Specifically, there will be continued strong support for our EU and NATO path, with the fulfillment of the conditions, and an unquestionable commitment to preserving stability through the EUFOR mission or NATO headquarters if necessary. I have received confirmation of this on several occasions through continued work with key members of the Bundestag, and this is also evident through the votes of these main parties on these issues, regardless of whether they are in power or opposition at a given moment,” said Ambassador Damir Arnaut.
