GRB 0_webThe British Ambassador to BiH Nigel Casey visited the Irish Guard yesterday, the regiment of the British Army participating in EUFOR’s exercise “Fast Response 2013”.

He said that the deployment of British forces demonstrates a strong and continuous political and military support of the United Kingdom’s Mission of EUFOR in BiH.

“EUFOR remains a significant insurance against any form of challenge to peace and security of the country, and we are pleased that the United is able to make its contribution to reserve forces and in this exercise’’, said Casey.

In March 2012, the government of the UK has been committed to supporting the reserve forces of EUFOR in order to maintain the EUFOR operation ALTHEA and to help in ensuring the security of BiH.

85 members of the Irish Guard that are participating in the exercise “Fast Response” is activated from one of the four units of the composition of the EUFOR reserve forces, announced today from the Embassy of Great Britain to BiH.

The exercise will demonstrate the ability of EUFOR to quickly activate and deploy two units in case the peace and security of BiH is brought into question.

During the separate phases of the exercise, EUFOR will, together with the BiH Armed Forces, work to further strengthen their professional training and to gain more experience in the work with the international military units.

Ambassador Casey will attend the display of combined military readiness for high officials and representatives of local and foreign media on 25 April in the barracks in Pazarića.

At the end of their program, the Irish Guard will participate in a series of bilateral activities for military engagement with members of the Armed Forces and the BIH Police, including the dedication ceremony of a new memorial monument to commemorate the 59 British soldiers killed during the conflict in the 1990’s, which will be held on 7 May.
