nigel-casey-reutersBritish Ambassador to BiH Nigel Casey visited today the Institute for Special Education of Children ‘Mjedenica’ where he got acquainted with the project of the Association for Improvement of Education and Support to Children With or Without Development Hardships. The project is called ‘Education for Everyone- EDUS’.

Casey was greeted by general secretary of the Association Sanela Lindsay, who said that EDUS got 70 000 BAM from the EU to realize the project ‘Stari Grad- the centre of progress of children with disabilities’.

Lindsay said that the project has the aim to prepare children for regular primary school and to make them functional in everyday life and added that previous projects educated 30 experts who worked with over 100 children with disabilities.

She noted that parents of children are also included in the project, which is based on intensive, multi-disciplinary therapy based on advanced scientific methodology for 59 children with more severe disabilities.

Casey noted that the project is wonderful and added that he’s happy that the EU can help similar projects which treat the most vulnerable categories of our society- disabled children.

‘I hope that needs of children with disabilities will be met through official education, and not through donation driven projects’, concluded Casey.
