The Embassy of Italy in Bosnia and Herzegovina marked in Mostar the 32nd anniversary of the deaths of journalist Marco Luchetta, cameraman Dario D’Angelo, and technician Alessandro Sasa Ota, who were killed on January 28, 1994, during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The commemorative ceremony, led by Ambassador Castellani, was attended by the President of the Mostar City Council Đani Rahimić, the Honorary Consul of Italy in Mostar Goran Grbešić, as well as representatives of the European Union, UNDP, OSCE, the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Mostar, and numerous members of civil society.
As every year, the tribute was held at the exact location where the three journalists lost their lives when a grenade struck. After laying a wreath, the ambassador paid tribute to their enduring legacy, describing them as symbols of free, thoughtful, and courageous journalism and as a moral example for all those working toward a Bosnia and Herzegovina that is open, cosmopolitan, democratic, and multicultural – far removed from the ethnic hatred and nationalism that have caused so much suffering.
“Their names will remain carved into this stone, permanently engraved in our collective memory, which we owe to those who gave their lives in service to the community. Their sacrifice stands as a lasting reminder of the deep and lasting value of peace and coexistence,” the ambassador said.
