The Embassy of the Republic of Austria in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), on the occasion of the National Holiday of that country, on October 26th, organized a reception in Sarajevo for a large number of invitees from BiH and the international community.

Addressing the invitees, the Austrian ambassador to BiH, Georg Diwald, emphasized that he will do everything in his current diplomatic mission to deepen cooperation and trust between his country and BiH.

“Austria remains a friend and continues to invest in the stability of BiH as a reliable participant of EUFOR troops,” said Diwald, among other things, emphasizing that around 170.000 people of BiH origin live in Austria and that a large number of young people from BiH study there.

The European Union (EU) wants BiH to become part of the European community, the ambassador also emphasized, and added that therefore calls will continue to political actors in BiH that the country meets the necessary preconditions for European membership.

His country is for a clear European future and stability of BiH and the Western Balkans, the ambassador of Austria also said.

In addition to representatives of authorities in BiH at the state and entity level, cantonal and municipal, members of the diplomatic corps in BiH, representatives of civil society, cultural workers, and numerous other guests were present at the reception.

On the day of the National Holiday, October 26th, Austria celebrates the adoption of the Law on Permanent Neutrality of that country in 1955.

In the statement of the Embassy of Austria in BiH on the occasion of this year’s National Day, it was emphasized that Austria remains a close friend of BiH and one of the most important advocates of the rapid accession of BiH to the EU.

It was also stated that Austria supports the necessary reforms so that BiH can begin negotiations on accession to the EU, as well as that stability in the Western Balkans remains a key priority of Austrian foreign policy.

According to the statement, the future in the EU is considered the best guarantee of stability in the region, and Austria will continue to encourage the efforts of BiH in that direction, Fena writes.
