Ambassador Sattler discusses Prospects for the Green Future of BiH with Students in Zenica

More than a hundred students from the University of Zenica participated in the discussion with EU ambassador in BiH Johann Sattler about the prospects for a green future of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Powering Up for Change: How can you contribute to a greener future?” was the topic of debate of students of the Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy-Technology Faculties of the University of Zenica in which the Ambassador Johann Sattler, Head of the Delegation of the European Union and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina participated. .

“Young people, with their skills and willingness for change, should be a driving force for a just transition to a low-carbon, environmentally and socially sustainable economy.  This is why we are here today – we want to hear young people’s thoughts on this subject, and learn first-hand how the European Union can support them,” said Ambassador Sattler.

Today’s event marked the launch of the EU in BiH’s project “Generation Change” which will tour Bosnia and Herzegovina’s state universities in the next two months, offering students a platform to raise their voice on topics that matter to them, network with their peers from other faculties, and discuss with EU representatives and young professionals from BiH the issues relevant for BiH’s EU path.

“It is important for a young person not to wait for a change but initiate a change. Everyone in their own field can do a little which can mean a lot for a country and environment. There are plenty of opportunities, particularly in the field of green economy, where they can find their chance, passion, and define a niche for action. The International Community is offering selfless financial and all other forms of support”,said Sema Čorbo-Lindov, economic and environmental activist.

For Ahira Mešić, student of third year of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Zenica, a motive for attending the debate was to learn more about the topic but also because she believes that “green and European future of our country are the only sustainable solutions“.

The event concluded by inviting students to team up and apply for the next phase of the #GenChange project, and get an opportunity to be part of a winning team that will travel to Brussels this summer.
