Energy efficiency is a major topic that dominates the European Union and the whole world because the EU wants to phase out the use of coal and carbon fuels by the year 2050, and BiH, as a country aspiring for membership in the Union, should join it, said Ambassador Johann Sattler, Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Mostar yesterday.

On the eve of the expert discussion entitled “Measures, steps and incentives to improve the energy efficiency of companies and households”, which was organized by the EU Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Intera technology park in Mostar, Sattler said that the EU prepared 70 million euros for Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Energy Support Package, one-third of which will be distributed as EU support to micro, small and medium-sized companies and households for improving energy efficiency.

“Of the 70 million euros available to Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Energy Support Package, 50 million euros will be available at the end of this month and at the beginning of next month to help the most vulnerable families facing high prices, and the remaining twenty million will be spent on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and households to improve energy efficiency,” emphasized Sattler.

As he specified, 4,000 buildings will have the opportunity to be renovated through this program. Apart from that, 400 micro, small and medium-sized companies will receive help to bring their companies to better energy efficiency.

Head of the Energy Efficiency Sector in the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund, Jasmina Kafedžić, pointed out that EU energy aid funds, which will be directed towards households and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises for energy efficiency measures, will be distributed through public calls.

“There will be two entity funds for environmental protection (in FBiH and RS) and it will be allowed to apply for energy efficiency measures on the buildings, as well as on mechanical installations, i.e. as regards micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and for the production of electricity from photovoltaic power plants,” explained Kafedžić, Fena reports.
