wigermackIn cooperation with the BH Journalists Association, the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU Special Representative are organising a one-day conference on how to meet European standards in the functioning and sustainability of public broadcasting services in BiH.

The conference will be held on October 8, 2015 (Thursday), in the EU House in Sarajevo (Skenderija 3a), starting at 10:00 am, with media statements scheduled at that time as well. The start of the conference will be open for photographers and cameramen.

The conference aims to launch a focused discussion on key issues in functioning of public broadcasting system among responsible and interested stakeholders from governmental and non-governmental structures in BiH as well as from public broadcasting services, and also to seek ways to tackle the key problems that are clearly outlined in progress reports for BiH in its EU accession process.

At the time when three public broadcasters in the public broadcasting system in BiH face a myriad of challenges related to digitalisation, as well as financial stability and political independence, and bearing in mind their importance in a democratic society, it is important to launch a dialogue with all parties and particularly in the context of meeting the Copenhagen political criteria of accession, and the 2014 – 2020 Guidelines of the European Union for the Freedom of Media in the Accession Countries, as identified last year by the European Commission.

Representatives of relevant ministries, parliamentary committees, regulators, management of public broadcasters, media experts and representatives of the media community in BiH have all been invited to attend the conference.
